Rebecca Poynter Steckler is president of the Lansing State Journal and Gannett Mid-Michigan; part of the USA Today Network which delivers the largest and most engaged audience in Mid-Michigan, provides the communities they serve award winning news and information, and brings local businesses unmatched resources to help their business grow.
In her position, she overseas Gannett Mid-Michigan, USA Today Network which includes the Lansing State Journal, Port Huron Times Herald Battle Creek Enquirer, Livingston Press & Argus, Observer & Eccentric and Northville Record. She was named to her present position in August of 2016. Earlier she served as Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Michigan.com.
Her first media industry sales job was as a sales representative for Detroit Media Partnership in 1997. Her career path took her to Gannett Co. Inc.’s Army Times Publishing Co., USA TODAY, and to the Lexington Herald Leader. She returned to Detroit in 2007 as Vice President of Vertical Sales and was named Senior Vice President of Advertising in 2008.
She earned a degree in Journalism from University of Kentucky. Prior to her first position with Gannett, she worked in the beverage industry, at the Coca-Cola Company.
Steckler is a two time Gannett President’s Ring Winner for excellence in advertising sales. She serves on the boards of MNI, the marketing affiliate of the Michigan Press Association and Focus: HOPE.
