India and Nepal: Border Transit Shelter
Lansing Rotary is supporting the building of a transit shelter on the border of India and Nepal via One World One Future with a $3,500 donation.
One World One Future is working to provide the organization Maiti Nepal with the funding necessary for a transit shelter to be located on the border of India and Nepal. Each shelter run by Maiti Nepal is estimated to rescue approximately 250 girls from being sold into a life of slavery each year. The cost of running a single shelter for one year is $25,000. This means we have the ability to save a life for $100. Not only does $100 save a life and provide a safe home, the transit homes are also engaged in counseling, facilitating medical check-ups to determine health status, motivating survivors to identify traffickers, and building networks and pressure groups
